Ten features to include when you create websites for business

  • User Experience: Build in content and tools that enhance the user experience – also known as UX – ensures your website is easy to navigate and intuitive

  • Responsive Website Design: Your website should look and function well on desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile phones. In 2022, the number of unique mobile internet users stood at five billion, indicating that over 60 percent of the global internet population uses a mobile device to go online. (Statista: 12.18.2023)

Responsive Website Design allows websites to work well and transforms the website sizing to be viewable on the screen size of the device the visitor is using.  Don’t take my word for it, View a definition of Responsive Web Design from Mozilla a leading Website Authority.

  • Website Loading Speed: Quality hosting for fast loading. Slow-loading websites are a big no-no; optimize your site for speed. Be sure to use quality, high-speed website hosting to ensure fast upload speeds. Good hosting will also offer superior protection against website hacking and malware.

Optimize your website images. We recommend using the WebP image format to stay up to date with Google’s latest image requirements.

  • Search Engine Optimization: Implement SEO best practices to increase your website’s visibility. Conduct extensive keyword research to identify and incorporate the keywords your customers are using to find the products or services your business offers.

When you build a small business website include the appropriate website schema that improves Search Engine Optimization.  What is website schema? In short, it is the language of algorithms! The proper schema helps Search Engines understand what your content is about. Learn more about Schema.

  • Authentic Website Content: Provide valuable, unique, and engaging content. A website for a small business should immediately tell your customers what type of service you offer. Your content should be unique and share what makes your business more appealing than your competitors.

  • Good Visual Design: A good business website designer should make your website aesthetically pleasing by using appropriate colors, fonts, and images. The visual design should stay consistent with your company’s branding strategies.

  • Call-to-Actions (CTA): Direct your website users towards specific actions with clear CTAs. A website for a small business should include compelling call to actions that direct visitors to take action. Examples of calls to action include signing up for a newsletter, watching a video, calling us for more information, and buying a product.

Call to action can be in several forms; images, text, or buttons on a website. Pop-ups can be obtrusive, but they have proven to be very successful in motivating a user to take action.

  • Top Notch Security: Protect your site and the users’ information with proper security measures. When you create a website for a business include the budget for an SSL (Secure Socket Layer) certificate. Depending on the size and reach of your website you may want to include additional security software such as Malwarebytes.

  • Website Analytics: Use analytics tools such as Google Analytics or my favorite FATHOM WEBSITE ANALYTICS* to track, measure, and improve your site’s performance. I am a fan of Fathom Analytics for two reasons, 1) their focus on simplicity 2) their commitment to your privacy. Also, connect your website to the Google Search Console tool so you can keep track of site performance issues.

  • Testing & Update Tools: Regularly test and update your website for optimum performance. We recommend updating your website’s software and security plug-ins consistently – at least monthly.

It is also recommended to invest in a support and security plan with your website designer. Good, web developers will offer plans to maintain your website at reasonable monthly rates. With a good support and security plan you can have the peace of mind that your website will be managed and kept free of malware. View the CAPSTONE WEBSITE DESIGN SECURITY AND SUPPORT PLANS!
